Onyewu loaned to Newcastle
NEWCASTLE, England (AP) — U.S. defender Oguchi Onyewu is set to join Newcastle on loan until the end of the season.
The 24-year-old Onyewu will move from Belgian team Standard Liege if he passes medical tests at Newcastle on Monday.
Onyewu started all three matches for the U.S. team at last year’s World Cup in Germany and scored one goal in 17 international appearances since his debut in October 2004.
Onyewu scored eight goals in 93 games for Standard Liege since joining in 2004. Newcastle is 12th in the Premier League with 30 points.
