Inside look at Kosuke Kimura
The Western Courier, the student newspaper of Western Illinois University, profiles Kosuke Kimura, whom the Rapids drafted in the third round of the MLS supplemental draft.
Kimura scored three goals and accumulated five assists in his senior season at Western Illinois. The Kanagawa, Japan native was named All-Mid-Continental Conference in 2005 (first team) and 2006 (second team).
The Colorado Rapids also selected midfielder John DiRairmondo and forward Riley O’Neill in the supplemental draft in January.
DiRairmondo played last season for Saint Louis University, where he was the leading scorer, with five goals. He finished his career as a Billiken with 21 goals and 28 assists. This year he was named third team All-American and first team All-Mid-Atlantic Region. DiRairmondo has also played for the U-17 and U-20 U.S. national teams.
O’Neill, a senior at Kentucky, led his team with 17 goals in 20 games this past season. The British Columbia native was named to the first team All-Midwest Region and All-Conference USA in 2006.
