Rapids notes: Prideaux, Cummings, U.S. Open Cup, more
The Rapids have signed Omar Cummings as the team’s fourth senior international.
Cummings, a Jamaican, was drafted by the Rapids from the University of Cincinnati, where he was All-Big East both seasons he played there.
The signing, combined with the team's trade for Denver South High School graduate Conor Casey, meant the Rapids had to trim their roster by one. As a result, the Rapids waived Yherland McDonald. Colorado already had one open senior roster spot.
KNEE INJURY: After suffering a tear of the meniscus in his right knee during the game last week in Dallas, Rapids defender Brandon Prideaux will be out for four weeks. On Tuesday, Rapids Doctor Wayne Gersoff preformed a successful surgery to repair the meniscal tear.
VIEWING PARTY: The official Rapids away-game viewing party for Monday's MLS fixture against Real Salt Lake will be held at the British Bulldog downtown, 2052 Stout St. (Broadway and Stout Street intersection). Kickoff is at 7p.m., and the party is open and free for fans of all ages. Supporters club members and show their Front Range membership card for food and drink specials.
KROENKE AND ARSENAL: London's Daily Telegraph reports that David Dein, the former Arsenal vice-chairman, has held talks with Rapids owner Stan Kroenke over selling his 14.6 per cent stake in the club.
U.S. OPEN CUP: The date and time for the Rapids' U.S. Open Cup play-in game against RSL has been set: 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 23, at Dick's Sporting Goods Park. The winner is officially entered in the tournament. The other play-in game will feature the Red Bulls playing the Galaxy on May 8 at the Home Depot Center.
