Notes: Mexico will visit Dick's Sporting Goods Park

The Mexican national team will play Colombia in a friendly on Aug. 22 at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park.

The game is the third stop on El Tri's summer U.S. tour.

Tickets will go on sale at noon July 5 and will cost $25 and up. They can be purchased at TicketHorse.com, at the box office at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park and at at any Colorado Dick’s Sporting Goods location. For more information or for group orders, call (303) 825-GOAL.

The most recent time that the Mexican national team played in Colorado was in 2002: Former Colorado Rapids midfielder Clint Mathis scored the only goal as the United States beat Mexico 1-0 at Invesco Field at Mile High in front of 48,476 fans.

MEXICO BLANKS BRAZIL: Mexico upset defending champion Brazil 2-0 in their opening match at the Copa America soccer championship in Venezuela. Nery Castillo and Ramon Morales scored first-half goals for Mexico to defeat a Brazil team missing first-choice players, including Kaka and Ronaldinho, in Puerto Ordaz. Castillo chipped the ball over a defender then prodded a left-footed shot into the net to open the scoring in the 24th minute. Morales bent a left-footed free-kick over the wall to make it 2-0 six minutes later.

CHICAGO SHUFFLES ROSTER: The Chicago Fire released midfielder Pascal Bedrossian on Wednesday and midfielder Ivan Guerrero obtained his green, opening up two senior international spots for the team. Bedrossian joined the Fire in August from Angers SCO, of the French Second Division. He had been hampered by injuries since joining the club and played in seven games, with two starts. Guerrero has been a mainstay in Chicago’s starting lineup since joining the Fire in 2005. He has two goals in 64 games. Obtaining a green card means Guerrero loses his senior international status. Chicago (4-6-2) has been looking for players to help an ailing team. Chilean Marcelo Salas is among those who have had a workout with the team.

BEASLEY TO RANGERS: American midfielder DaMarcus Beasley transferred to Scotland’s Glasgow Rangers on Wednesday. The 25-year-old was injured for much of last season and played just 18 games for Manchester City. He was on loan to the English club from PSV Eindhoven. Beasley has signed a three-year contract. Although Rangers did not reveal how much it paid PSV, reports said the fee was about $1.38 million.

TORONTO-NEW YORK TRADE: The New York Red Bulls acquired defender Kevin Goldthwaite from Toronto FC on Wednesday in exchange for Todd Dunivant. Goldthwaite played in nine games. He scored the eventual winning goal in Toronto FC’s first-ever win May 12. He also had an assist in a win over FC Dallas. Dunivant, also a defender, played in seven matches for the Red Bulls. He was acquired in June 2006 from the Galaxy. He had two goals and two assists in 22 games last season.

BACKING OFF THE ALTITUDE BAN: FIFA revised its ban on matches at high altitude, easing the restrictions to only apply to World Cup qualifiers above 9,840 feet rather than 8,200 feet. The change, brought on by protests from South American countries, means international matches can still be played in the capitals of Colombia and Ecuador but rules out Bolivia’s capital, La Paz. While the initial decision applied to all international games, the new rule will be limited to World Cup qualifiers.
