Rapids acquire Burciaga from Wizards
The Rapids acquired defender Jose Burciaga Jr. from Kansas City on Wednesday in exchange for a second-round pick in the 2009 draft.
The Rapids are hoping Burciaga's attacking abilities help the team's offense, which was one of the worst in MLS in 2007.
“The addition of Jose Burciaga Jr. to our roster will help us both defend our goal and spring attacks from the back,” coach Fernando Clavijo said in a press release.
Burciaga has started 110 of the 115 MLS games he has played in while scoring 13 goals and recording 17 assists from his left back position. In 2006, the Texas native recorded career highs in goals and assists with eight of each and was named to the MLS Best XI. In 2007, Burciaga had four assists and two goals.
Burciaga was named Kansas City’s Humanitarian of the Year in 2007 because of his work with his foundation, his work at the Guadalupe Center in Kansas City, Mo., and for running a clinic for more than 100 kids in New Orleans.

Not sure what to make of this trade. We need defensive help but why did he fall out of favor in KC. I tend to trust the judgement of KC coach's staff vs the Rapids based on some of the bad signings last year

This trade will add to our already good back line. Adding some depth, with Dan Gargan and Kos, even Brandon coming off the bench. Jose is a good player, hopefully he can overlap some runs on the left side of the field.
