Notes: Peguero heads to San Jose, we may miss Bouna, more!
Former Rapids striker Jean-Philippe Peguero has been loaned to the San Jose Earthquakes by Danish team Brondy, according to reports.
On its Web site, the San Jose Mercury News said the teams made the deal shortly before Tuesday night's FIFA transfer deadline. It won't be official until the transfer is cleared by FIFA, the Web site said, and Peguero must pass a physical.
Pedro, as Rapids fans knew him, tore anterior cruciate and medial collateral ligaments in his right knee in August 2006.
The Mercury News said Peguero would not be available Saturday night against the Rapids.
It's an odd move, if you ask me, because Kei Kamara and Gavin Glinton looked wonderful against Chicago. But they didn't score. So maybe that's behind the thinking.
MORE ON PEGUERO: Did anybody notice that one of the victims of a Haitian drug lord early in the second season of the Showtime series Dexter was named Jean-Philippe Peguero? I asked the folks at Showtime if the writer or director or even the actor that plays Dexter is a Rapids fan, a soccer fan or an MLS fan. I got a promise that they'd try to track it down, but I never got an answer.
BOUNA TIME FOR SENEGAL (BUT NOT THE RAPIDS)? Goalkeeper Bouna Coundoul may miss time with the Rapids in May and June because of Senegal national team duties, according to the WeWantRapidman blog. Senegal is due to play a series of World Cup qualifiers in June, meaning Bouna might miss games from May 24 through June 21. He also could miss a couple other games in September and October because of two remaining qualifiers. Check out Nick's entire entry over at WeWantRapidman. Nick is really kicking arse on his blog, and I'm glad he's out there spreading the gospel.
'YOUTH MOVEMENT': Andrew Wiebe over at American Soccer Daily writes about the Rapids' "youth movement." "The Colorado Rapids and the phrase "two-time defending champions" hardly seem to go together. ... This season, Colorado is beginning to reap the rewards of having a championship-caliber reserve side." Check out the whole entry here.
SOME CHANGES AT FC ROCKY: I am taking over administration of the soccer page of the Rocky's Web site. What does that mean? I'll be scouring the wires to bring you soccer news and posting it online, often with pictures. Whereas in the past I would post a lot of national and international news from AP on my blog, I'll be posting those reports on the straight-up soccer page.
The soccer page is at www.RockyMountainNews.com/rapids (for some reason you need the "www." to get that to link).
FC Rocky, as always, is at www.RockyMountainNews.com/soccer (again with the "www.").
And here are the types of stories I will be uploading. These are all from Tuesday and Wednesday.
Dynamo's Robinson fined, suspended
Chelsea to play preseason games in Russia
Cruyff discusses kidnap attempt
Ramirez's short stint as Mexico coach begins
Mexico-Belize qualifier moved to Houston.
On the blog, Angel and I will stick to the Rapids, MLS, the U.S. men's national team and the World Cup. On the Web site, though, I might be mixing in a little more about the U.S. women's national team and Mexico's national team and whatever catches my fancy on the wire. We won't be able to post every word that The Associated Press sends us (I still have to do my regular job!), but we will be making the Web site more relevant for soccer fans.
