Jean Philippe, er, Peguero ... I mean Pedro!
An article in the San Jose Mercury News suggests that the former Rapids striker whom many of us know as Jean Philippe "Pedro" Peguero actually has a different name.
Apparently Peguero is his given name, and his surname is Jean Philippe. So all along, we should've been calling him Peguero Jean Philippe.
Elliott Almond writes, "When he joined the Rapids he asked for the name Peguero to be stitched on the back of his jersey. As a result, most in MLS thought his first name was Jean Philippe. But that's the family name, taken from a great grandfather.
"His mother Analise came up with the name Peguero, which he says expresses how quiet he was as a baby, and how much she expected him to grow."
But, correct me if I'm wrong, didn't he have his nickname, Pedro, stitched on the back of his kits here in Colorado? At least some of the time, right? I looked through our photo archives, but all of the pics are from the front. Can't see the back of the jersey in any of them.
Well, in any case, if Almond took the time to ask about the guy's name, it probably is Peguero Jean Philippe.
But even on the Mercury News Web site where I noticed the story, Pedro is referred to as "Jean Philippe Peguero" in the cutline. Take a look below.

OK .... so I just went and looked at the bigger image. That is DEFINITELY Kamara. The Associated Press actually sent a caption correction fixing the name but it looks like the Merc missed it.
But a nice double there -- wrong name of the wrong person.
