Rapids waive midfielder Gomes
The Rapids waived midfielder Rafael Gomes on Friday.
Gomes was signed by the Rapids on March 3. He appeared in seven matches for Colorado, with two starts, occasionally playing on defense.
Playing 282 minutes with the first team, Gomes tallied one assist vs. FC Dallas on June 1. He also recorded 290 minutes of action in four reserve matches and 122 minutes in the Rapids' two U.S. Open Cup "play-in" contests, scoring during the team's penalty kick shootout loss against the Wizards.

As for Rafael it's not surprising. With Petke ready to come off of IR we needed to make room on the roster. Gomes wasn't exactly convincing in the backline. And with LaBrocca and DirRaimando stepping up this year, he wasn't needed in the midfield.
