Rapids reportedly hire assistant coach
The Rochester Rhinos of the United Soccer Leagues' First Division have announced that assistant coach Steve Guppy has been hired as an assistant coach for the Colorado Rapids.
Rapids officials were unavailable for comment late Thursday night.
The Rhinos' Web site says Guppy and Gary Smith, who took over the Rapids' head coaching duties after Fernando Clavijo left the team during the season, are "long time friends."
So, reading between the lines, it looks like the Rapids may have decided to retain Smith as their full-time head coach. If the team confirms or denies, I'll let you know.
Here's a link to the story on the Rhinos' site.
Bonji, over at the Class VI Web site, has his take on the issue here.
