Rapids re-sign Ihemelu, Cummings
The Colorado Rapids have signed forward Omar Cummings and defender Ugo Ihemelu to new four-year contracts, the team announced Wednesday.
Financial terms were not disclosed.
Cummings was the team's second-leading scorer in 2008. He finished the season with six goals and four assists in 26 games. He also earned call-ups to the Jamaican national team last year.
Ihemelu started 16 of the 18 matches that he appeared in for a total of 1,493 minutes as the Rapids allowed a league-low 278 shots on goal. Ihemelu has also been a recent fixture on the U.S. national team, participating in the January and February training camps. He earned his second cap in the United States' 3-2 win over Sweden on Jan. 24.
