Let Army use the land it needs or let it leave
By David Hughes, Colorado Springs
Then in 1970 the El Paso County commissioners voted to deny the Army permission to buy the slice of waterless land near Fort Car
That forced the Army to buy a costly place
Then Colorado Springs moved heaven and earth politically with the support of congressmen to get the Defense Department to station a large number of troops at Fort Carson, citing in part its Pi
Then
The state of Colorado, Colorado Springs and El Paso County sure love the federal income pouring in from Fort Carson. But
So if you don't want the land your family has built itself on to be stolen by the government you automatically don't support the troops? Bob, you're a retard... Mr. Hughes, you are correct, the Army should cease the buildup of troops at Fort Carson. The local Governments want the revenue generated by the soldiers, but are unwilling to support training requirements. Let the troops leave and then listen to the outcry when the money dries up. It’s one thing to say you support the troops….it’s another to actually do it. So while Colorado Springs (and El Paso county) sits back and makes more money from the increase in troops in those counties the counties of southern/southeastern Colorado lose land that has been cultivated by families for generations. Not only that but those counties (who are already among the poorest in the state) will lose their tax base and become even more poor. Seems to me like Springs and El Paso county is reaping all the benefits from this but paying none of the cost. No wonder somebody who lives in Springs is all for turning this whatever land is necessary over to the Army. Now all of you people in the poor part of the state should just shut up and take your medicine so we can further enrich the cities along the front range...nice.
