An 'O. Kay' chat *

We just got done with a live chat at Rocky Talk Live with Mark Wolf featuring O. Kay Henderson of Radio Iowa.

The big topic was judgment day -- aka, this Saturday's Iowa GOP's Straw Poll in Ames, although we also squeezed in some questions about the Democratic field.

For a transcript, CLICK HERE and watch the TRANSCRIPTS section on the lower right side of the page.

The straw poll no ordinary beauty contest. Historically, the Iowa Straw Poll has been a reliable predictor of the top finishers in the first-in-the-nation Iowa caucuses the next January. And so this is the first real springboard -- or brick wall -- for the crowded Republican field.

The latest poll (by ABC News and the Washington Post) shows former Mass. Gov. Mitt Romney with a comfortable lead in Iowa. (See the numbers HERE.)

But some say this year's straw poll results could be tainted by the fact that several big national names -- former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, Sen. John McCain of Arizona, former Sen. Fred Thompson of Tennessee and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich -- have decided not to contest the non-binding straw poll.

What's more, there's a big asterisk hovering over the recent poll results:

So there were 756 things to talk about -- MAYBE EVEN THIS EYEBROW-RAISING ANGLE for Tancredo watchers.

So it was a good thing our guest was one of the best talkers in all of Iowa:
O. Kay Henderson of Radio Iowa.

$35. a ticket, how does this relate to blue collar folks?
Movies $5-15. Straw Poll $35 = 2 to 7 movies. Overpriced Straw Poll.
I'll cut some lawn, let the grass dry and have my own free straw poll.
Fred Thompson, another old man w/trophy wife, probably the G(reedy) OP candidate, cause old those old rich pasty white guys wanna be him.
Give me a democratic and I said democratic (bush/cheney, just because you won't.) candidate with some anima, life, over those old pasty white guys, we need a change. Enough trampling on our constitution, enough with the signing statements, end the opaque GOP regime, bring in transparency, and make the dems accountable. mj

    Tara,

That's an interesting observation. He is a somewhat cautious speaker, even when we're peppering him with questions at media availabilities. He might consider himself "meticulous" or "precise" about his language -- I don't know. I hadn't thought of it as "halting," but I guess that's in the eye of the beholder.

Tell us more about the responses that left you thinking that way last night.

Hey M.E. -- in your more direct contact with Obama, do his Q&A responses seem as halting as they appear on television? His pauses in both thought and speech leave me wondering if he is sure of himself. They're distracting & provide viewers (like me) lots of time for TV-induced ADD to creep in and pull my attention away from what he's saying. It happened in both last night's MSNBC debate & the YouTube debate. Have you noticed this in your in-person experiences?

    Grats & keep kicking butt,

Barry Bonds is the best player ever. Batting and fielding he's gotten it done better than anyone: Ruth, Mays, Banks, Conseco, Dunston....

Asterisk my butt! 756 baby! As R. McDonald says, "I'm lovin' it!" After I worked him to a full count, I decided that I wanted to be the one to enter the record books, even if it's kind of humiliating. So I gave him a fat pitch. Big deal. He was going to hit 756 off somebody, it might have well been me. At least we won the game. Eight straight!

Why all the hatred? Bonds has never tested positive. Period. You people, ME especially, should move to Putin's Russia if you're so cocksure about condemning this man's reputation without a shred of REAL evidence. Hearsay doesn't count.

How many Major League homeruns has the scribbler of this blog hit? Maybe his mom can remember a little league homerun, maybe not. Sprengelmeyer is just bitter about Soriano's injury. Next year maybe.
