The loss of someone who touched many in the pages of the Rocky

Two weeks after celebrating his 105th birthday, Harold Gray died Saturday morning in Brush, where he lived for nearly a century. The recently rekindled relationship between Harold and his 76 year-old son Stan was featured in a special section called Fathers' Days in 2004, and a follow-up story last year. Harold Gray’s funeral is set for 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Brush United Methodist Church, 1701 Edmunds St., in Brush.

Harold and Stan's story touched many people when we printed a special section in July 2004, written by Jim Sheeler and photographed by Steve Nickerson. You can read the story at this link. A photo of a nude Harold drying off in the tub while his son prepared his bed caused consternation among some readers. But not Harold. He had a great sense of humor. Harold and Stan sent me a photograph recreating the powerful image by Mr. Nickerson. This column recaps that story.
